Microsoft has joined the Covid-19 High Performance Computing Consortium led by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. As part of its AI for Health programme, Microsoft will give researchers access to the Azure cloud and high-performance computing capabilities.

The project, which is being spearheaded by the White House, the US Department of Energy and IBM, aims to provide Covid-19 researchers worldwide with access to powerful computing resources in order to accelerate scientific discovery around the virus and ultimately stop the spread. Other industry, government and academic organisations have volunteered free compute time and resources as part of the consortium.
