Airbus simulates aircraft strength in 3D
8 February 2013

Airbus is to expand its use of Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform’s realistic simulation applications (SIMULIA).
With this project, we are pushing the boundaries of high-performance computing and our physics-based simulation applications to validate full-scale aircraft designs overnight
Monica Menghini, Dassault Systèmes This will accelerate the structural analysis and virtual testing of their next generation aircraft, starting with the A350-900.
SIMULIA Abaqus is used to predict the real-world strength and performance of Airbus’ aircraft structures.
This is part of Airbus’ Accelerated Development for Vulnerability and Nonlinear System (ADVANS) programme.
Airbus designers and engineers also create very large simulation models, leveraging their aircraft models designed in Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA application.
“With this project, we are pushing the boundaries of high-performance computing and our physics-based simulation applications to validate full-scale aircraft designs overnight,” said Monica Menghini, executive vice president, Industry and Marketing, Dassault Systèmes.
Menghini added: “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows users to experience the accurate physical performance of their aircraft design much sooner and well before committing to physical tests.”
