Canadian university upgrades security
30 September 2009
The University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada has implemented Trend Micro Enterprise Security to protect more than 3,000 PCs and servers across its campus.
“We saw that viruses and other Web-based malware were on the rise,” said Kelvin Hwang, computing consultant at the university. “This was impacting IT, since we had to handle calls from users and spend time cleaning up infected machines. We have a small staff and needed to get this under control. More importantly, infections were spreading before we could get to them and the Web threats were starting to impact users throughout the campus. We identified Web reputation technology in Trend Micro OfficeScan as a solution to our growing Web-threat problem without extra hardware and software.”
Trend Micro OfficeScan has helped us to stop Web threats earlier
Kelvin Hwang, University of Windsor The university deployed a whole gamut of Trend Micro products including: OfficeScan Client/Server Edition and Internet Security Pro for laptops and off-campus PCs; ScanMail Suite for Lotus Domino for campus email server protection; ServerProtect for Microsoft Windows/Novell NetWare for file server protection; and Control Manager for administration.
“Trend Micro OfficeScan has helped us to stop Web threats earlier,” said Hwang. “In particular, its Smart Protection Network Web reputation technology blocks many threats before they can impact our network and systems. When this feature was turned on, we saw a major drop in calls related to Web threats to the help desk. The resulting IT savings are very important since we have a small staff focused on security, and we must also manage other technology solutions and projects.”
