Carrefour launches SoftWide
3 November 2008
Carrefour has launched Tribeka’s SoftWide solution in its new Bruges hypermarket in Belgium. The company plans to deploy the solution in two other hypermarkets this year.
Tribeka’s SoftWide technology is built on the Microsoft .NET Framework and allows customers to walk into a store, choose from a vast range of software merchandised either on shelf or on the electronic catalogue, and walk away instantly with a secure software copy, identical to the traditionally distributed version. Tribeka has agreements with over 300 leading brand name software publishers including the Auralog, Avanquest, Corel, Kaspersky, McAfee, Roxio and Sage, to offer an ever-growing catalogue of titles available for PCs, Pocket PCs, and talking books. The SoftWide solution is also capable of supporting music and is easily upgradeable for the release of console platforms and DVD movies.
Carrefour is to use SoftWide to deliver its software offer both for on shelf merchandising and on demand manufacture starting in three pilot stores in Belgium. The retailer has dedicated an entire area to SoftWide delivered software, situated in the middle of the PC, electronics and media department.
Carrefour is the world’s second-largest retailer and the largest in Europe with sales of over €100 billion. The group currently operates over 15,000 stores in four main formats: hypermarkets, supermarkets, hard discount and convenience stores.
