Danish hyper-market hits Web

Danish hyper-market chain Bilka has launched a new e-commerce site with help from Cactus Commerce. Bilka is part of the Dansk Supermarked Gruppen (DSG), encompassing other leading brands including Fotex, Netto and Salling.

“The vision for DSG is to extend our brand reach, leading with our Bilka chain,” said Kim Nissen, manager of IT system development at DSG. “Our goal is to become a destination e-commerce site in Denmark for a broad range of products.

“We want to expand beyond our current e-commerce offering to include new categories such as wine, electronics, furniture and clothing,” continued Nissen. “We chose Cactus Commerce because of their vast experience and expertise in B2C e-commerce solutions. One of our priorities was the consolidation of multiple brands on a single infrastructure and establishing a framework for future multi-channel functionality.”

The Bilka e-commerce site was built using the Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 platform, which is expected to assist with the future integration of other existing DSG Web stores, including photo processing and music downloads.

The project also involved local firm Vertica, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner in custom development solutions, SOA and business process. Vertica helped develop a number of e-commerce feature sets and was a strong contributor to the custom integration development work – particularly around the warehouse management solution.

“Working with DSG and local partner Vertica has been a fantastic foray into the Nordic region for us,” said Tony Marinelli, CEO, Cactus Commerce. “We look forward the opportunity to explore more opportunities in the region.”
