30 July 2013
3D solutions specialist Dassault Systèmes has acquired design optimisation and automation company SFE.
Completed in early July, the transaction included the purchase of SFE’s products including SFE Concept, SFE Akusmod, SFE Akusrail and SFE Mecosa.
Enhancing Dassault Systèmes’ transportation and mobility industry solutions, the acquisition is allowing the company to offer integrated conceptual engineering solutions and expand its CATIA and SIMULIA applications.
“The combined SFE and Dassault Systèmes 3DExperience Platform capabilities will lead to complete coverage of the entire value chain for the transportation and mobility industry,” said Bernard Charlès, president and CEO of Dassault Systèmes. “From quick modelling to post processing analysis, to product performance simulation and shape optimisation, the full design process is integrated.”
In addition, the acquisition will reinforce Dassault Systèmes’ position in the automotive market and offer a range of benefits to SFE’s existing customers, including General Motors, Porsche, Fiat, Chrysler, Daimler, Ford, BMW andVolkswagen.

Dassault Systèmes “We have worked closely with Dassault Systèmes over the past few years and we have seen firsthand its passion for its customers, as well as its vision for harmonising products and how they are experienced in the real world,” said Hans Zimmer, CEO and founder of SFE. “SFE’s customers will receive significant value through Dassault Systèmes’ global support organisation and well-recognised commitment to research and development.”
Dassault Systèmes has also launched V6 Release 2014 of its flagship product the 3DExperience Platform, which features a new, unified navigational interface.
This latest version, which is currently available to select customers, can be hosted on premise or via a public or private cloud. Through V6 Release 2014, customers can also take advantage of cloud-based industry solutions, including Industrial Equipment Single Source for Speed, CATIA Concept Creative Design, SOLIDWORKS Mechanical Conceptual, DELMIA Assembly Process Planning for Transportation, Milling Machining, and more.
“This release brings a disruptive new user experience and the value of a business application at every single level of the company, transforming the world of IT platforms,” said Monica Menghini, executive vice president, Industry and Marketing, Dassault Systèmes. “Our new navigational user interface is so intuitive that we wanted to give it a name: ‘IFWE Compass,’ because in business it is always a question of considering ‘what if’ scenarios to find the right path. This new release of the 3DExperience Platform will help business leaders connect ideas, people, data and solutions to create experiences that delight their customers and inspire brand loyalty.”
