Dassault Systèmes acquires Netvibes

Dassault Systèmes has announced the acquisition of Netvibes, the company that pioneered the first personalised dashboard publishing platform for the web.

Netvibes, which was set up in 2005, allows professionals, brands and enterprises to create personalised dashboards for real-time monitoring, social analytics, knowledge sharing, and decision support.

Dassault Systèmes, a product lifecycle management (PLM) and 3D design company, will integrate the dashboard intelligence company’s publishing platform into its 3D Experience platform.

The creation of this 3D Experience platform was announced at the same time as the acquisition. The acquisition forms part of the PLM company’s belief that virtual worlds can improve the real world.

Combined with Dassault Systèmes’ 3D Experience platform, we will provide customers with real-time information critical to their innovation process

“Our vision is to provide ‘social information experiences’ to the business world and consumers; holistic views on everything that matters, both inside and outside the company, in order to innovate,” said Bernard Charlès, President and CEO, Dassault Systèmes.

Charlès added: “Netvibes is a perfect fit for our 3D Experience platform. It will connect information related to all product, service and user experiences from internal and external data sources, all in real-time and in-context for a better, richer experience and decision-making process.”

The future of the dashboard intelligence company will remain unchanged, according to a statement from the CEO on its website: “Our product and team will stay the same, but you can expect new features, faster than ever. (In fact, you will see some great ones over the next few weeks!) Both users and clients can expect a long-term future growth and stability, backed by one of the largest public companies in France.”

Freddy Mini, CEO, Netvibes, said: “This partnership was born out of our mutual vision to bring dashboard intelligence to company platforms and processes, as well as real-time information to everyday people.”

“Combined with Dassault Systèmes’ 3D Experience platform, we will provide customers with real-time information critical to their innovation process. The time between consumer reaction and business action is the key to providing the best experience possible.”

Netvibes’s current clients include Coca-Cola Company, the US Department of Energy, Digitas and Universal McCann.

The 3D Experience platformis and this acquisition are just two ways the PLM company is innovating in the 3D space.

Last year the company announced the creation of FashionLab, a technology incubator that allows stylists and designers to try fashion concepts using 3D technologies.

Dassault Systèmes has also increasingly been focusing on the retail industry and its partnership with Microsoft. At NRF 2012 in New York, the company joined Microsoft on the innovation area of its stand.

The product lifecycle management company was demonstrating how 3D environments can help retailers better imagine, validate, and deploy optimum shopping experiences with its 3DVIA Store offering.
