Environmental awards for over 30 HP products
25 July 2006
More than 30 Hewlett Packard business computing and display products are now included in an independent online registry that helps institutional buyers select computer products based on their environmental attributes.
The Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) registry went live on 24July. 26 of HP's 32 registered products have received 'silver' recognition, the highest level bestowed to any manufacturer's product thus far.
"Developing environmentally sound products has long been a priority for HP's design and engineering teams," said Jeri Callaway, vice president and general manager, Americas Commercial Solutions, Personal Systems Group, HP.
"We're particularly proud that our business-class products already meet, and in some cases exceed, the basic EPEAT standards without any alteration to their existing design."
All EPEAT-registered products must meet minimum requirements in eight areas of environmental impact, such as reducing or eliminating environmentally sensitive materials, designing for longevity and reducing packaging materials.
Registered products also must be energy efficient, to reduce emissions of climate-changing greenhouse gases. In addition, manufacturers must demonstrate corporate social and environmental performance and offer safe end-of-life management and recycling options for products that become unusable.
