17 November 2011
Fujitsu has joined forces with data protection expert Becrypt to offer the first comprehensively secure tablet PC for UK governments.
The Fujitsu STYLISTIC Q550, which runs Windows 7 professional, comes with Becrypt’s DISK Protect Baseline full disk encryption software.
We are committed to providing flexible, yet highly secure ways to protect data, enabling people to remain highly productive even when working with sensitive or classified data
Bernard Parsons, Becrypt The combined solution is designed to ensure sensitive data is fully protected in the event of loss or theft, with prevention of unauthorised access ensured by strong user authentication.
The STYLISTIC Q550 already comes with integrated hardware security features including a smartcard reader, fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module.
Michael Keegan, UK executive director of Fujitsu’s Technology Product Group, said: “We recognise the dilemma faced by the public sector who are attracted to the benefits promised by tablets, including a more mobile and flexible workforce, but who are equally concerned about inadequate data security offered by the majority of tablets.
“Our partnership with Becrypt makes the STYLISTIC Q550 the obvious choice for both public and private sector organisations that have a responsibility for ensuring data security is not breached, while safeguarding UK citizens and valued customers.”
The use of tablets is very much a hot topic in UK government that continues to generate interest.
Mark O'Neill, head of innovation and delivery at the Government Digital Service, is examining whether sharing information via tablet devices might prove to deliver cost savings compared to traditional paper-based printing.
O'Neill’s findings will be reported to the Cabinet Office to determine what technology – including tablets, smartphones and PCs – the government should issue to public sector workers in future.
Bernard Parsons, CEO of Becrypt, commented, “We are committed to providing flexible, yet highly secure ways to protect data, enabling people to remain highly productive even when working with sensitive or classified data.
“Our long track record of working with the government and CESG to provide encryption solutions for use with all levels of data up to Top Secret, means that we are ideally placed to provide these solutions for new form factors, such as Fujitsu’s STYLISTIC Q550.”
