HBOS migrates mainframe
10 November 2008
UK financial services company HBOS has completed a mainframe migration project, converting its previous Unisys environment to Asysco Migration Technology Visual Studio (AMT-VS).
The first step, back in 2004, was to use Asysco’s AMT-LION to migrate HBOS applications and data onto a Windows-based platform. The more recent, second step involved converting the environment into C# code. After running through an early adoption phase, and alpha and beta tests in 2007, the final implementation was completed this September.
Asysco said the project was primarily about business risk avoidance and strategic alignment of systems. Other benefits included ongoing license fee reduction with medium term ability to be fully independent. For IT, immediate benefits are expected in the areas of platform maintenance, internal flexibility of resourcing and ability to use external resource.
In addition, HBOS has been able to align with its strategic goals for .NET and C# development under Microsoft Visual Studio. This is expected to convert growth and capability through industry standards.
