HP to acquire Tower Software
4 April 2008
HP is strengthening its position in the e-discovery and compliance software market with the acquisition of Tower Software. The deal will add records management and identification to HP’s existing information collection and retention e-discovery capabilities. On completion of the acquisition, expected during the second quarter of 2008, HP Software will be able to address the fast-growing compliance and e-discovery requirements for Microsoft SharePoint.
The move will enable the HP Software business to broaden its e-discovery and compliance management solutions for government and highly-regulated commercial organisations, offering integrated electronic records management, information archiving and record retention in a single portfolio.
“In reaction to increased business regulation, electronic records management has moved from a back-office task to a business-critical function,” said Robin Purohit, vice president and general manager of information management for Software at HP. “The combination of the HP and Tower software portfolios is expected to be hugely beneficial to the legal and IT organisations of businesses all over the world.”
“The combination of HP and Tower will allow us to scale and provide our customers with a comprehensive portfolio of enterprise information and IT management software solutions,” said Martin Harwood, chief executive officer of Tower Software. “We have partnered with HP for years, and we will now be able to enhance how we serve our joint customers and partners.”
