Brendan O’Meara, managing director for retail at Microsoft, provides a glimpse at some of the products that are going to enable retailers to better engage their customers and operate more efficiently. Microsoft provided more information on its vision for intelligent systems in retail at NRF 2012, as well as partners that are supporting this vision. This includes Intel, Motorola, Fujitsu and NEC. Intel and Macy’s are changing the cosmetics buying experience with Macy’s Beauty Spot, a touch-screen kiosk built on Windows Embedded Standard 7 that displays products, specific looks and how to create them, and detailed purchasing information. The technology is in four stores already and rolling out to a total of 10 pilot sites.
