SharePoint used for social collaboration

A couple of pieces of news from Microsoft partners have emerged in recent days that highlight the use of Microsoft SharePoint as a platform for social collaboration.
Firstly, enterprise automation solution provider ACRM Software & Technology is adding Calinda Software’s social collaboration offering for SharePoint to its product portfolio.

ACRM Software & Technology Calinda's SocialFactor technology brings social collaboration and microblogging to the SharePoint enterprise.
“In 2011,the number one request we've been receiving from our customers, business of all sizes, has been for collaboration solutions that would help them tap into ideas, knowledge, and expertise at the heart of their business and leverage them to get more business results, faster,” said Sara Lawson, managing director of ACRM Software & Technology. “In order to respond to that demand, we started searching for technologies in that space that would work on Microsoft SharePoint. We assessed several solutions and we selected SocialFactor technology, because it far exceeds the functionality of any competitive collaboration product.”
In addition, the latest version of Neudesic’s social collaboration software now features on-premise and cloud offerings that enable out-of-the-box integration with unified communications platforms, including Microsoft Lync.
This forms a key part of Neudesic's vision of creating a social fabric for the enterprise by allowing users to move social conversations to instant messaging and voice, regardless of the applications in which the conversations started
“Neudesic Pulse delivers maximum flexibility to our customers and allows social conversations to occur in the context of applications used by enterprise employees,” said Neudesic CEO Parsa Rohani.
“Many of our customers have made investments in unified communications platforms like Lync and want to unlock scenarios that are relevant to their business objectives,” said Ramin Vosough, general manager of Neudesic's product team. “For example, users can now follow a document or any artifact in SharePoint via Pulse and be alerted to changes, add comments relevant to it in CRM, and at any time, escalate it to a Lync session.”
