US school opts for Dell Windows 8

Spartanburg School District 3 in the US has selected Dell’s Latitude 10 and XPS 12 tablets running Windows 8.
IT manager Donnie Elder said: “When we discovered that Dell had a line-up of Windows 8 devices that are compatible with our existing IT infrastructure, it was a no-brainer for the district to move forward with Dell. Not only are Dell’s tablets responsive, but it saves the district from having to invest in new IT systems so we can put more devices in the hands of our teachers and students.”

Donnie Elder, Spartanburg School District 3 According to a Dell blog post, with the productivity features of Windows 8, Spartanburg 3 students are able to have a two-way interaction leveraging the vast educational resources online as well as create content.
As students complete tasks using their tablets, teachers are also able to monitor progress and personalise lessons to provide additional practice in an area of struggle or increase the rigor of a lesson.
“Ultimately, it’s all about the learning experience,” says Eric Levitt, assistant superintendent for instruction at Spartanburg School District 3. “Dell and Windows 8 devices deliver our teachers and students an intuitive device for self-directed learning that delivers a personalised approach to education.”
This is part of Spartanburg 3’s 1:1 mobile learning initiative to put a device in the hands of their students and teachers to use in the classroom.
The school district had already invested in Windows 7 desktops and laptops and evaluated devices from Apple, Google and Samsung before selecting Dell and Windows 8.
