The new skeye.dart
Under its Skeye brand, UK-based Hoeft & Wessel has released a self-scanning mobile terminal called skeye.dart.
The new unit receives and transmits data online via GPRS, has GPS navigation and a microphone so that it can be used as a mobile phone. It also features a built-in camera to take photographs and scan barcodes.
“Through the use of self-scanning we have identified potential savings in the retail sector both in terms of time and cost,” said Peter Claussen, deputy chairman of Hoeft & Wessel’s management board and head of the Skeye business unit. “The combination of self-scanning and self check-out technologies will allow supermarkets in Britain as well, as elsewhere, to achieve significant efficiency benefits in future.”
The skeye.dart is designed to open up additional functions for the retail trade. At point of sale, products can be advertised on the high-resolution display, or acoustically via loudspeakers. A further option is the provision of targeted buying advice. A customer purchasing a particular kind of cheese could receive a recommendation for a suitable wine to match.
Skeye system tools work with Microsoft Windows CE .NET or Windows CE 5.0 operating systems to enable flexible, customised and modern device programming and configuration.
